Medical Assisting Diploma Program

At Integrity College of Health in Pasadena, our Medical Assisting program is designed to prepare students to enter the fast-growing healthcare industry. Medical Assistants are healthcare professionals who perform critical administrative and clinical tasks in support of doctors and medical practices. This 34-week program provides students with intensive training to learn the skills to perform important clinical and administrative tasks. Students in the Medical Assistant program learn from professional instructors and receive real-world on-the-job experience through an Externship.
Students in the Medical Assisting program learn:
- Greeting patients and answering telephone calls
- Scheduling appointments
- Verifying patient information and health insurance
- Updating and filing patients’ medical records
- Recording information in systems like Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Completing and filing paperwork like surgical permission forms, health check,s and insurance forms
- Preparing the examination rooms
- Preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies
- Measure vital signs, such as blood pressure
- Help physicians with patient examinations
- Give patients injections or medications as directed by physicians and as permitted by state law
- Collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing
- Adhere to HIPAA and privacy laws
Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Medical Assisting diploma, and CPR and First Aid Certification from the American Red Cross.
Job Outlook
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks Medical Assisting as among the fastest-growing occupations over the 2020-2030 decade. Employment is projected to grow 18%, much faster than the average for all occupations (BLS). Medical Assistants hold jobs in hospitals, physician’s officers, private medical clinics, and other healthcare settings.
Program Overview
Length of Program: 34 weeks morning/afternoon or 42 weeks evening classes
Total Clock Hours: 780 (Classroom: 620 – Externship: 160)
Prerequisites
Must have a high school diploma or GED and pass the entrance exam. If you do not have a high school diploma, we offer the Eligible Career Pathway Programs (ECPP). Students will have the opportunity to earn their high school diploma while being concurrently enrolled in an eligible ECPP program.
